Six years of dedicated work and MEVA know-how went into the new ACI Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces (347.3R-13). It clearly defines the features of a formed surface. This puts everyone in a better position to agree on the desired finish. And it is the basis for talking with one another – the best way to avoid costly conflicts.
Concrete Construction is America’s leading building industry magazine. It is published by Hanley Wood Media, who also stage the World of Concrete in Las Vegas. Every year, the publishers honour the 5 “most influental persons” in the concrete industry. The distinction goes to people who significantly further the industry through their work. In 2015, the award went to Rolf Spahr for his successful work with the ACI, the American Concrete Institute, specifically its technical committee 347 Formwork for Concrete. The ACI is regarded as the leading global institution in the concrete construction industry and is represented in 100 countries across the globe.
Rolf Spahr has been head of MEVA Formwork Systems sales operations in Germany since 1988 and, in addition, spearheaded the company’s development in North America.
MEVA Formwork Systems Inc. is based in at the company's North American Formwork Centre in Springfield, Ohio, serving the entire United States of America, Canada and South America.
MEVA Formwork Systems was founded in 1970 and operates from 40 locations on 5 continents. Headquarters are in Haiterbach in the Northern Black Forest Region in Germany.
MEVA is the inventor of the FORMWORK CLAMP, the closed hollow profile for panelized formwork systems, brought in light-weight ALUMINUM to formwork and is the first to do away with plywood waste by introducing a 100% wood-free, all plastic facing to all its formwork products. The Story behind the News - and the Way to the ACI Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces
“Years ago, I was asked to get involved in the
ACI to bring in my formwork knowledge and experience. After
looking at the various guides and documents, such as ACI 34 7. 301 and 117, I
realised that there was no clarity on surface texture. My goal was to clearly
define the various features of a formed surface, and the result is the new ACI
347.3R-13– Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces – which took six years of dedicated
work before being published in December
2014. Now we are trying to educate contractors and architects about the new
guide. lt will take time to gain experience
with this, but I believe it will put everyone in a better position to agree on the desired concrete surface finish. It will push people to sit together as a team. Talking
together is always the best way."
Since 2001, MEVA has been an active member of Committee 347 which is dedicated to in-depth work on formwork technology. With its all-plastic facing alkus, MEVA formwork is used on many high-profile and high-tolerance projects.
